History of GMCC
Gilgal Missional Community Church began early in 2012 with the launch of a new church plant on Weston Road in Toronto. The original name of the church plant was Restoring Toronto Evangelical Community and it’s founder was Rev. Gilmar de Souza. Pastor Gilmar engaged Pastor Nazaré Aquino to lead the work but that arrangement did not endure and Pastor Gilmar took the lead of the congregation soon after the new church began.
In 2013 a Mother/Daughter Church Plant Agreement was signed and RTEC officially joined Gilgal Christian Community. RTEC relocated to the corner of Lawrence St. And Wilson Avenue . Pastor Gilmar worked diligently but the congregation never enjoyed a strong backing by a good number of members. The Church was incorporated federally and then registered with the CRA. At this point it left Gilgal Christian Community.
In 2016 Pastor Gilmar reported to Dr. Ron Morin that he had decided to surrender the CRA Charitable status number and corporation. It was decided that new board members would come on to lead the ministry and over a period of almost two years the new board effected a name change to Gilgal Missional Community Church.
The board which worked on the changes and on submitting the necessary reports was comprised of Dr. Ron Morin, Rev. Philip Chang, and Minister Sonia Freitas. In September of 2018 the board was again updated. Dr. Ron Morin was succeeded by Dr. Aaron Kerr as president. Rev. Thomas Mathew succeeded Minister Sonia Freitas as secretary. Rev. Philip Chang remained as treasurer.
Dr. Aaron Kerr became the organization’s first Bishop and General Overseer.
